It's impossible for me to give an exact event that turned me into a nerd. I've basically been like this since birth.
My brother is five years my senior, and by the time I came around he was already a bit of a nerd. In fact, he was so fond of the Ninja Turtles that my parents had no idea that they were giving me a name that would ensure that I hear, "Oh, Ariel like The Little Mermaid," practically every time I introduce myself to someone. My brother's Ninja Turtles phase completely masked their exposure to the whole Disney princess thing, they didn't even know about the film that came out a full two years before I was born.
Now, when I was little, I basically worshiped my brother. I had to do everything he did. I wouldn't even eat the special treats bought on a morning shopping trip until he got home in the afternoon and could eat them too. So, anytime he liked something, I liked it just as much.
Then there's my dad as well. He saw the original Star Wars in theaters when he was about thirteen. He can do a damn good Gollum voice. Need I say more? Thought not.
Eventually, I developed my own aspects of nerdiness, but that's basically where it started.
I love being a Nerdfighter because it makes me feel a bit more okay with my nerdiness. I mean, I loved being a nerd before, but I always sort of felt like it was something that shouldn't be revealed until I knew a person pretty well. Things have changed a lot on that front; I only wore Potter-related Ts to my college orientation this year, for example.
In other, sort of BIG news: I am MOVING! In a WEEK! My dad got a job opportunity in Indianapolis, and since I don't especially love where I am with life at the moment anywhere, I'm going to go hang out down there for the summer and see if I like it. If I do, I might stay. (And if I find a job- perhaps John Green needs a babysitter? Just kidding; that would probably be weird.) If not, I might come back here to the Twin Cities, or maybe try to find somewhere entirely new. I will keep you posted.
Until next time, then.

A Perfect Playlist...
... at least for the time being. I made an on-the-go playlist a couple of weeks ago and haven't tired of it yet! This is a major feat for me, as I usually tire of new playlists about five minutes after I make it. But not this one! And not only that, but I am also continually impressed with how well it seems to flow. So I thought I'd share, just for fun. Here it is:
Littlest things- Lily Allen
Bad Romance- Lady Gaga
Outside World- Lauren Fairweather
Lovegood- Ministry of Magic
Wizard Rock Twist- The Remus Lupins
LDN- Lily Allen
Where the Colors Don't Go- Sam Phillips
Night Time- FranKo
I know it's a wee bit heavy on Lily Allen (I mean, those two songs something like 25% of the whole thing), but I like it.
What have you guys been listening to lately? Feel free to tell me in the comments, or on your own blog. =]

Show and Tell
Today is the first official weekday after the start of the new year. In elementary school, middle school, and sometimes even high school, this day meant answering one question constantly.
"What did you get?!"
Being that I'm officially at university this year, I don't even start back at school for another two weeks, by which point the novelty of sharing your holiday loot sort of wears off. So, in lieu of grade school huddles, I thought I'd share a couple of my favorite things from this season with you.
My beyond amazing brother apparently went to several shops before finding this gem of an iPod case. It's Space Invaders! How cool is that?
Unusually good haul this year, as the case was purchased to coordinate with my dad's gift of an iPod(!). It's a red nano, and I'm so pleased to finally have a music player that actually functions. My old one stopped allowing new music to be put on it sometime around last May. (My old one was Product Red, too. Three cheers for helping to save the Freddie Mercurys of the world?)

Next up are these amazing bootie/slipper things that I got from my lovely cousins. They are like having a big poofy blanket wrapped around your feet and are so comfy. I wear them constantly, because my feet are always freezing. My favorite part about them, though, is the story that accompanied them. Apparently they were at Ikea, and my three year-old cousin saw them, stared at them for a couple of minutes, then looked up at her mom with wide eyes, and asked, "Are those Santa's feet?"
I'd love to see your favorite gifts from this year. Post them on your blog and leave a comment letting me know, to ensure I don't accidentally miss it in my feed, or something. =]

Billy, I'm Sorry, But it Isn't Working Out Between Us.

This book?
It needs to die.
I love Shakespeare as much as the next English major, but I hate having to study it. I feel very strongly that Ol' Billy's stories are to be appreciated, but not too analyzed. Especially after being forced to do just that for weeks on end. And still more to come. Blah.
But I do I hope my BEDA buddies are enjoying themselves at school. =]

Tumblr
Hey, BEDA buddies.
It's been a while, and despite my best efforts, I just haven't felt much like changing that until now. Even though I have a ton to talk about. Why I didn't like HBP, for instance. Or LeakyCon (speaking of which, let me know if you still want to hear about it from me, since you've no doubt read about it from numerous other sources by now). The guys on the show Gilmore Girls, and how I can never decide which of them I like. And unfortunately, since class started yesterday, posts are likely to continue to be scarce.
To hopefully remedy this lack of updates, I've started a tumblr account here. I haven't quite figured it out yet, but I think that once I do it will be simpler to update than this blog. So if you miss my ramblings (though I don't know why you would), you can check that out. =]

Update
Hey guys, in case you haven't noticed, I haven't blogged in quite a while.
Nor have I put up my LeakyCon report.
I do intend to do these things, really, but I'm in that rather intense three-week course right now, and it's eating my time.
Just thought I'd let you know I'm still around. =]
